For our October Member of the Month, we interview superstar member Emily Lin! Read on to learn more about her!
Tell us about yourself! It can be about anything – where you grew up, your professional background, your hobbies, etc.
Hi! I’m Emily Lin. The suburbs of Westchester, NY is where I call home and I commute to the city where I work as a graphic designer so I truly get the best of both worlds. In my down time, I like to shoot portrait and product photography and experiment to see what else I can make with my waffle maker.
Also, after four rewarding years teaching at my local Chinese School on the weekends, I’ve decided to depart to make time to travel and advance my aspirations in filmmaking. Here’s a video I shot for my church celebrating Chinese New Year:

Why did you join TAP? What are your favorite events?
I really missed playing on a team sport, so a very good college friend, Vincent Liao, suggested I join TAP volleyball. Turns out TAP is my redemption for not being more involved in college Taiwanese society despite my longing to do so.
One of my most memorable events is Passport to Taiwan held annually at Union Square. For years I’ve been an attendee, so it was very exciting to be behind the scenes at the oyster pancake booth! At one point we ran out of eggs and had to dash to Whole Foods with Design Chair, Jordan Hu to buy as many cartons we could carry. (21 dozen eggs lol)
I also greatly enjoy TAP’s industry meetups. From the Film/TV meetup I was able to build a good connection with a fellow TAP member, Cindy Chu. I had the greatest opportunity to assist on set for her TV pilot QUEENS. TAP is a great community for personal and professional growth and the best part of TAP events is you come out with new friends!
Tell us something cool that happened to you this past year.
I got to see the awe-inspiring Director of Pixar Bao, Domee Shi, share her creative process on the stage I designed. She’s my new hero.
If we wanted to hang out, where would we find you?
When the weather’s nice, occasionally hitting my local golf driving range and working on my swing or probably zooming in and out of Grand Central Terminal meeting up with friends. During the winter, most likely hibernating and maybe catching a show on Broadway Week. All year round I’ll be looking for film sets that need a hand. Let me know if you need an extra videographer/photographer!
What’s your advice for newer members who want to get more involved?
The TAP board really puts in a lot of love and dedication to offer a good mix of events, so follow their newsletter and just go to events that interest you. I’ll be around; come say hi–you may even end up getting a new profile pic from yours truly 😉
